"Then certain vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth."
This word "adjure" means to command solemnly under or as if under oath or penalty of a curse, or, to urge or advise earnestly. Adjure, in this scripture, was used to intimidate the evil spirit and the vagabond Jews were ill treated by that spirit because it was not the power of God to be relied upon but the power of man.
According to 1Corinthians 2:4, Paul noted he didn't come preaching with excellent speech or by man's wisdom but by the spirit of God and in the power of God.
God did not give us a spirit of fear- therefore, fear not- but of power and of love, and of a sound mind. Let us rely on the power of God by preaching the gospel thereby rolling the burden to perform off of ourselves and upon the One who can handle every situation and circumstance.
